Bay Area Air Quality Management District

The Bay Area Air Quality Management District (BAAQMD) is a public agency that regulates air pollution in the nine counties surrounding San Francisco Bay. They make money primarily through permit fees from businesses that emit pollutants, grants, and state and federal funding. Established in 1955, BAAQMD was the first regional air pollution control agency in the United States and has been instrumental in implementing air quality regulations and initiatives to reduce emissions and improve public health in the Bay Area.
