Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority

The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) is a public agency responsible for planning, coordinating, designing, building, and operating transportation services within Los Angeles County. Metro generates revenue through fare collection, local sales taxes, state and federal grants, and advertising. Established in 1993 through the merger of the Southern California Rapid Transit District and the Los Angeles County Transportation Commission, Metro oversees a vast network of bus and rail services, including the Metro Rail system, which is one of the largest in the United States.
