United Negro College Fund

The United Negro College Fund (UNCF) is a philanthropic organization that funds scholarships for Black students and general scholarship funds for 37 private historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs). Founded in 1944 by Frederick D. Patterson, UNCF has been instrumental in supporting higher education for African Americans. The organization generates revenue through donations, corporate partnerships, and fundraising events. Notably, their iconic slogan "A mind is a terrible thing to waste" has become synonymous with their mission to provide educational opportunities and foster leadership within the Black community.
