World Bank Group

The World Bank Group is an international financial institution that provides financial and technical assistance to developing countries for development programs (e.g., bridges, roads, schools) that are expected to improve the economic prospects and quality of life for people in those countries. It makes money through interest on loans, fees for services, and returns on investments. Established in 1944 during the Bretton Woods Conference, it comprises five institutions, including the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) and the International Development Association (IDA), which focus on reducing poverty and building shared prosperity.
